Our Story
Where are we Going?
The Colorado Healing Fund was founded in 2018 by a group of victim advocates and community leaders who wanted to establish a secure way for the public to contribute to victims of mass tragedy related to a criminal act in the state of Colorado. In the aftermath of a tragedy, there is always an outpouring of support and goodwill. Historically, people gave money to help victims but had never been a coordinated process for donation collection or distribution of funds. Additionally, the internet and social media have changed the way giving occurs which may lead to fraudulent activity. CHF was established to alleviate those concerns by providing a secure way for the public to donate.
Over the years the healing fund has found the value of being a key support in mass tragedy throughout Colorado and continues to strive and expand its efforts toward supporting the survivors, victims, those impacted and professionals. The Colorado Healing Fund is commitment to becoming an expert in mass tragedy support before, during and after incidents, with the goal of eliminating incidents all together.
As the healing fund expands, we expect to develop and roll out a training model for businesses, community members, first responders, professionals, law enforcement agencies, legal support, and law makers. These trainings will help to prepare Colorado residents for incidents, responses, and support the healing around such. These trainings will be offered in numerous fashions to allow accessibility to resources state wide.
Lastly, the Healing Fund is working to design and implement a healing program that offers support to the professionals, survivors and family members of mass incidents. Each program is specific to the audiences attending, addresses key focuses on healing, vicarious trauma, impacts of tragedy and grief. These programs will roll out in the fall of 2025 and will create a lasting impact on those attending.
Our Fee
There is no easy way to talk about or address money. The Colorado Healing Fund was founded due to this very reason. Unfortunately, in the wake of mass tragedies, fraud is a very common incident. The healing fund was founded to address this issue creating a streamlined avenue for resources to be funneled to victims honoring their privacy, anonymity and needs. Each victim is assigned a victims advocate by the local law enforcement agency involved in the tragedy. Each advocate communicates with the healing fund for the needs of those they support. The healing fund provides funds for the emotional and physical needs in the aftermath of mass tragedies. The Colorado Healing Fund collects a 4.95% fee from donations given to the organization.
This fee allows the fund the ability to ensure our staff have the resources, expertise and skills to do the work our organization does and create lasting impact for communities. Like any business, operations funding is imperative to the success of its output. We are committed to ensure the remainder of all funds are given to survivors and those impacted by each mass tragedy. It is the goal of the healing fund to develop and build relationships with donors who are willing to cover the administration of our organization. Historically, there have been several tragedies where companies have covered these costs. We will continue to work toward a model that reduces this fee and are committed to alternative funding opportunities that cover operational costs.
